Metallized Sapphire refers to sapphire substrates or components that have undergone a specialized surface treatment involving the deposition of a thin layer of metal onto the sapphire material. This metallization process is applied to sapphire for the purpose of improving its electrical, thermal, or mechanical properties. The metal layer adheres to the sapphire’s surface, offering enhanced conductivity, reflectivity, or other desired characteristics. Metallized sapphire finds applications in a wide range of industries, including electronics, optics, and aerospace, where its unique combination of sapphire’s inherent hardness and the metallic properties offers significant advantages.
Our sapphire material is single crystal sapphire. This one is high-purity, optically clear form of Al2O3 which can be used in many harsh environments.
Most of the time, the sapphire need to bonded to metal ,epoxy and other glue methods.
And brzing is a much better option.Comparing with gluing, brazing can reach a hermetic, high-temperature sealing. Then they can be used in harsh or vacuum environments.
Due to the high purity of Al2O3, Sapphire can not be brazing or soldering directly. It request an intermediary metal. The intermediary metal can be molybdenum/managanese (Mo/Mn). The Mo/Mn is bonded with sapphire which will lead to sapphire can be brazing with metal.
After sapphire metallization, they can be brazing with metal and withstand extreme temperature (-40°C to 800°C( and provide a hermetic seal to 10^-9 torr.l/sec.
